The resources provided are not sponsored or endorsed by Westport Onyx. Westport Organizations

Community Support:

  • TEAM Westport: is the official committee of the Town of Westport, CT with the mission to make the Town of Westport increasingly welcoming with respect to race, ethnicity, religion and LGBTQIA+. TEAM is an acronym standing for “Together Effectively Achieving Multiculturalism.”
  • Westport Museum for History and Culture: The Westport Museum for History and Culture is dedicated to embracing the truths of history so that all can see themselves in our American story.

Education and Scholarships:

  • Connecticut Black Caucus Foundation: Offers scholarships and educational support to Black students in Connecticut.

Family Support:

  • Connecticut Alliance of Foster & Adoptive Families (CAFAF): Provides resources and support for Black families involved in foster care and adoption.
  • Connecticut Parent Advocacy Center (CPAC): Offers assistance and guidance to Black families with children who have special needs.

Fitness & Wellness:

  • Black Girls Run Connecticut: Promotes physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle among Black women. 

Health Advocacy:

  • Black Mental Health Alliance: A network of mental health professionals and advocates focused on Black mental health.
  • Connecticut Department of Public Health – Office of Health Equity: Addresses health disparities and offers resources for underrepresented communities.
  • Connecticut Black Women: Focuses on improving the health and wellness of Black women through education and advocacy.
  • NAMI Connecticut: Provides resources and support for Black individuals and families dealing with mental health issue through the Steve Fund.

Men & Women Support

  • 100 Black Men of Stamford: An organization dedicated to mentoring and empowering young Black men.
  • National Coalition of 100 Black Women – Southern Connecticut Chapter: Focuses on the economic, educational, and cultural development of Black women and girls.

National Organizations:

  • African American Mental Health Organizations: Organizations like the Steve Fund and Therapy for Black Girls are dedicated to addressing mental health disparities within the Black community.
  • Black Family Support Organizations: The National Black Child Development Institute (NBCDI) and the Association of Black Psychologists (ABPsi) work to support the well-being and development of Black children and families.
  • Career & Financial Empowerment Organizations: Organizations like the National Black MBA Association, Council for Urban Professionals and the National Black Chamber of Commerce focus on economic empowerment and career development for Black professionals and entrepreneurs.
  • Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs): HBCUs are institutions provide educational and cultural support to Black students, often emphasizing community engagement and social justice.
  • National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP): The NAACP works to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights for all and to eliminate race-based discrimination. They address various aspects of the Black community's needs, including legal advocacy and civil rights.
  • National Urban League: The National Urban League focuses on economic empowerment, education, and social justice for African Americans and other underserved urban communities.

International Organizations

  • African Diaspora for Change: This organization focuses on building solidarity among people of African descent in the Americas, including Afro-Latinos. They work to raise awareness about the contributions and challenges of Afro-Latinos and foster unity within the African diaspora.
  • African Union (AU) and The African Union Citizens & Diaspora Directorate - CIDO work to strengthen ties between Africa and its diaspora and promote the interests of people of African descent worldwide. 
  • Latino Civil Rights Organizations: Some national Latino civil rights organizations, such as UnidosUS(formerly NCLR), may also have initiatives or programs that address the specific needs of Afro-Latinos within the broader Latino community.
  • National Black Latino Council (NBLC): The NBLC is dedicated to addressing the challenges faced by Black Latinos and Afro-Latinos in the United States. They focus on issues related to civil rights, education, and social justice.
